Update: Jupiter Mission was a success and The Monolith now has a new owner. Thanks!

Howdy neighbors,

I am in need of a good home for "The Monolith," a large, heavy table-like object that I'm offering for free to whomever can arrange to haul it away. It has served me well for many years, but it doesn't really fit the apartment I most recently moved to. Perhaps it would fit better where you live!

As the photographs below the cut illustrate, it measures 42" x 42" x 15", with a surface comprising easy-to-clean panels of matte-black laminate. It has a raised base with feet, so it can be used as a low coffee table. It can also be stood up on-end and against a wall for use as a shelf or bar.

Under the laminate it's essentially a solid block of wood, meaning that this table is both indestructible and very heavy. You will need a truck or something appropriately truck-like to haul it away from my Lexington Avenue apartment.

The Monolith was originally one of several made by a friend's dad for a trade show many years ago, and later entered domestic retirement, passing through households until it ended at mine. It's time to pass it along again. It would break my heart to just dump it, so I hope that I can find someone here who'd appreciate its space-age charm.

If you're interested in it (or just have questions about it), drop me a note here or via email. Thanks!
