Just had a nice chat with the street sweep - he was parked in front of my house hoping that at least *some* of the people would get out and move their cars.  He gave up at 8:20, with nine cars still parked on the wrong side.

The interesting bits were: (1) they are going to start towing regularly next year (2) for times when they don't, fines will increase to $80.

Edit: According to [livejournal.com profile] tom_champion this is an unfounded rumor.  (see his comments below)  Thank you Tom for checking into this!

TwoMamas Photography and Historic Somerville are teaming together to create an artistic poster that honors the history, architecture, and unique style of our city.

We need your help! We are looking for unusual, beautiful, quirky, or weird doors from any building (house, City building, school, church, etc.).

Rules of Submission:
- Doors must be in Somerville
- Submit image of door only, without address or other location info
- Images should be in color
- Any quality photo is okay
- Photos must be posted by November 8th, 2012

How we pick:
- If we are intrigued by your submission, we will contact you for details on location
- With owner's permission, we will come photograph the door.
- TwoMamas reserves the right to make final decisions on what images work together with the poster. Even if we photograph your door, it may not make it to the poster.

What you get (if your door makes the final poster):
- fame!
- bragging rights!
- a free poster! (both owner and submitter, if not the same person)

Miso Market, the last remaining store in the Bob Slate building at 1963 Mass Ave, has gained a three year reprieve.

To review: some history and zoning information behind this lj-cut )

We have just learned that Miso Market has three years left on their lease and apparently can not be evicted unilaterally. This is corroborated by the fact that the AT&T Cellco store in the Galleria has closed and has a sign in the window saying that they are moving to 1967 Mass Ave. That's the former Stellabella space.

We can breathe a sigh of relief for at least the next three years. The problem remains over the longer term, however. Read more... )
