ETA 8/21: The originally scheduled August 24-25 closure is postponed until September 14-15
This weekendand two weekends later (August 10-11 and 24-25), the Longfellow Bridge will be closed to car traffic in both directions, and the Red Line will be replaced with shuttle buses between Kendall and Park Street stations.
On those days, the roadway will be reconfigured for two-way bus travel, which means no bicycle lanes. The north (downstream) sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians. The state is asking cyclists to walk their bikes across the bridge on that sidewalk instead of trying to share the road with the shuttle buses.
These are the first of 25 weekend Red Line closures that will take place over the next three years. The next ones will be ETA: September 14-15, October 19-20, October 26-27 and November 2-3.
