Hello, Davis Square Denizens! Do y'all know if businesses are generally open in Davis today? I wanted to start a post for "these places are definitely open," but it's possible they're all generally open, so I wanted to check. Thanks!

Blessed be the shovelers, those of tired backs and aching arms, for through the sweat of their brows, we may walk.
Blessed be the snow blowers, though their machines are noisy, because you can fit a stroller through those suckers.
Blessed be the plow drivers, though you have just plowed in the end of my driveway *again*, because we know you working hard this month.
Blessed be the fit young firemen who are digging out every one of this city's hydrants.
Blessed be the neighbors who shovel and snowblow for their neighbors who cannot, because we're not all as able as we used to be.
Blessed be Mayor Joe Curtatone and Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville, though they both sound kinda tired, for they are holding the city together.
Blessed be Dr. Scott, who made the hard call to put safety over political expedience, though it meant my husband had to walk three miles to work this morning, because walking is still better than a derailment.
Blessed be the bus drivers, though they may splash me with slush, because they will wait long enough for a young mother and toddler to climb over snow berms to get on board.
Finally, blessed be the folks at 'Bucks and Dunks, dispensers of coffee and cocoa, because we couldn't get through this without them.

I thought we could all use something upbeat this week!

Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with important snow-related updates for Tues., Feb. 10.

Please note that a citywide parking ban remains in effect for the even side of the street (unless otherwise posted), HOWEVER parking will be available on both sides of the following streets ONLY (unless otherwise posted) effective immediately:
  • Highland Ave. from Vinal Ave. to McGrath Hwy.
  • Broadway from Cedar St. to the Charlestown line in East Somerville

In all other locations, the parking ban will remain in effect. As bans are lifted, on a rolling basis, we will send email and text message alerts to residents and businesses in those areas. As they are announced, streets will be listed with a map on the City's home page - http://www.somervillema.gov - as well as on our social media feeds. Residents may also call 311 (617-666-3311) for a list of streets.

Until the ban is lifted on your street, please refrain from parking on the even side of the street (unless otherwise posted). Vehicles parked on the even side where the ban remains in effect may be subject to ticketing and towing to ensure City crews can conduct important snow removal operations.

Property owners will have until 10 a.m. on Thurs. morning, Feb. 12, to shovel sidewalks before enforcement begins.

We understand that this amount of snow presents unique challenges in terms of snow removal, however we must provide safe access for all residents, and we ask property owners to do their part to aid in this effort.

Finally, as a reminder, please remember to review important information about clearing snow and ice from roofs to prevent roof collapse, available on the City's website. We thank you, again, for your continued support and cooperation in this extremely difficult winter season.
