Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with important snow emergency information for Sat., Feb. 14.

Due to expected blizzard conditions, the City will reinstate the Citywide parking ban on the even side of all streets (unless otherwise posted), starting at noon Saturday. The ban includes all streets, including those where the ban was recently lifted. All cars must be moved from the even side of the street (unless otherwise posted) by 4 p.m. Saturday or they may be ticketed and towed. Municipal and school parking lots will remain available for residents.

A snow emergency has remained in effect since the most recent storm as crews have worked around the clock to haul and melt snow citywide and to clear snow from roofs of municipal and school buildings.

With additional snow now also predicted for next week, we urge residents to continue to follow the City’s social media feeds and website – www.somervillema.gov – for updates. Also, please remember to clear external vents and exhaust pipes to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, clear your own roofs of snow, and if possible, assist the Somerville Fire Department by shoveling out hydrants in your neighborhoods.

If you have other non-emergency questions, call 311 (617-666-3311). For any emergencies, always call 911.

According to the T website, the entire system (subway, trolley, commuter rail, bus, and boat) will be shut down this Sunday, February 15.

In addition, "late night" service will not run this Saturday night/Sunday morning. Service will end at the same time that it normally would on a weeknight.

What is Somerville etiquette about chairs set in a parking spot to save for the person who shoveled once in the intial storm and continues to hold the space for their individual use only?  Does the city have a policy about this or cars buried on the odd side that have never been shoveled or moved for the last month?  Do people honor the saved spots? Meanwhile, stay warm and safe as the next blizzard event begins!
