Just got this email from Somerville Community Alert system:

Weekend Storm Predicted. Please Plan Ahead.

We wish we were writing to simply say, “Happy Spring!” Unfortunately, Mother Nature isn’t quite finished with winter. So, as much as it pains us to say it, please prepare for the possibility of a snow emergency for this weekend’s storm. At this time, there is NO snow emergency in effect, however, because an emergency declaration is possible, if you are planning to go out of town for the weekend, please plan ahead and move any cars left behind to the odd side of the street (unless otherwise posted) before you depart. If and when the decision is made to declare an emergency, we will notify you via our usual channels, so stay tuned. In the meantime, think happy thoughts of spring!

(The email didn't include that link; I added it because it currently shows a 76% probability of more than 8 inches of snow)

The Somerville Journal is closing its Somerville office and moving its operations to Danvers, according to local media writer Dan Kennedy.

The Journal and the Cambridge Chronicle have always been sister publications, but no longer: the Cambridge Chronicle's office is moving to Lexington.

How well can you cover the city when you're not in or even near the city?

The Journal's current office is on Central Street, on the side of the Cuisine en Locale (Anthony's) building. I can recall at least three other offices during my time here: Summer Street across from the VFW (in a building that still has "Dole Publishing" engraved on the wall), the Social Security Building, and the Harvard Vanguard medical building. Long ago I'm told they were located on Elm Street where Ace Wheel Works is today.

Cambridge City Councilor Leland Cheung has announced that he will run against Somerville Senator Pat Jehlen in this September's Democratic primary election. Jehlen has held the seat since 2005.

I'm curious what Cheung would do differently from Senator Jehlen, but the linked article gives no specifics.
