I have to get pizza for about 40 people later this week. I can get pizza from any of the typical places near Tufts (there are three pizza places right there) -- but I'm not so into the typically greasy slice. I was hoping for an alternative pie that was competitive in price ($12 for a large which will feed approx. 3-4 people). Zing is over the price range. Any other suggestions?

I like Pini's in Magoun Sq. I don't recall exact prices though.

Pesctore, in Ball Square. Their pizza is amazing. PDF of the pizza and to go menu here.

Pini's (Magoun sq.) and Eat At Jumbo's (Ball sq.) are both solidly good -- the former cheaper and less greasy, the latter in my opinion slightly tastier and with greater non-pizza variety.

This. Although a little greasy, it is incredibly yummy and about $10 a pie with one topping.

Pini's is the best by far.

and even better ordered "well done"

Sometimes the default is a little limp (as with many places), but a "well done" in the order sorts that out.

I don't find Pinky's particularly greasy either. But it sounds like you disagree.

City Slicker is an atypical greasy slice (http://www.cityslickercafe.com/themenu.htm). I love their rich, pie-crust-y crust, but not everyone does.

This. OMG this. Some argue it is more like fococia with toppings. Whatevah, it is the yum! (Problem for me is keep is not continuing to eat past the point of being full). My favorite is the caramelized onion with basil. Ymmv.

Pini's also has a bulk discount for like, 5 pies I think?

if you like zing, ask if they'll give you a bulk discount? i have a "buy one pie, get one half-off coupon" from them stuck on my fridge....

Emmas is probably a bit far and perhaps outside your price point, but as a slightly more mainstream alternative, I stand by Theos in Teele.

I know some DSLJ's have had issues with them. I never had. And a large pizza is like $0.50.

Our office at Tufts orders from Avellino's. The pizza is good, and the delivery is prompt. We've also called Pini's and been happy. I don't know if Bocelli's delivers, but their pizza is excellent—in my opinion, the best of the three.

I have to say, I don't get what's meant by "greasy" pizza. It's pizza. It has some grease on it. What's the problem? Is this some sort of metaphor for "not yuppie pizza"?

There is such a thing as pizza that doesn't have grease on it.

Gotta agree with the Pini's, no question.

I'm late to the party, but I have to throw out Leone's on Broadway in Winter Hill. They take cash only, and do not deliver, but their pizza is really tasty (something in the sauce... maybe cocaine, not sure!). They do Sicilian-style pizza, so it's thick crust, and really only one or two slices of this will fill you up. A half-tray (not pies, trays!) is like $12-$14 and feeds four people easily, 6 people probably.

Pescatore's has good specialty pizzas. Pini's is good for the straight-forward stuff, as well.

Pini's is my vote, their buffalo chicken pizza is to die for.
