We have a sink hole in our driveway and need it fixed, stat! Anyone have experience with a concrete guy or anyone else who could repair a sinkhole? Thanks!
I don't have specific people in mind, but maybe calling 311 would yield information? The city probably knows everything about road-fixing contractors in the area...
There's an actual hole (it happened so fast, like over the course of a month!) and you can see the foundation of the house. It's not as simple as fixing a dip. I probably need someone to come dig it out as it's hard to tell exactly what going on down there.
Hey trtls if time allows I would be interested to see how this work and your other thread for home repair work turns out- also your recommendations of contractor. I basically have both of these similar projects in the pipeline- of course the driveway part is only if budget allows:)
Sure, if I remember. :) I have had a couple people out for the porch and am waiting for the quotes. (It's looking like ~$2000.) And I called DC paving and am waiting for a call back.
So the results of the driveway (DC paving is who I hired, didn't have any other recommendations): They came right away for the quote and right away for the fix. They did a great job, especially for the price. I paid them $250 for digging out the falling in section and filling it with asphalt and smoothing it out well over the area where I was having trouble. The long-term results will probably not necessarily be based on how good a job they did, but rather what the initial cause of the sink hole was, which is somewhat unknown. Our best guess is critters digging tunnels and rain finding a way in to rush everything away. If that's the case, it's possible it'll happen again. At any rate, it was well worth my $250. They weren't the most professional (one of them smoked while working even though my kids and I were around - I hate that), but they did good fast work.
For the porch, we hired Lineal, Inc. They aren't quite done, they have to finish one piece of trim and paint. (Painting is not normally something they do, but they agreed to do it for me.) Anyway, they are responsive to email and voicemail and very competent and quick workers. I'm sure if I'd said the painting needed to be done right away, they would've found a way to do it, but it's not a big priority for me. The beam they replaced was incredibly rotted and they found other rotten wood, too. They didn't replace anything without checking with me first and were knowledgeable about the best way to do things. They were super friendly and nice and I can't say enough good things about their work.
How did it go with Lineal? I have a problem with moisture in my front hall and under my porch and need someone with good analysis skills to determine what's going on as well as repair it.
Lineal did a great job! They are very nice and very competent. There's one piece of trim that's left to put one which has dragged out for several weeks, but it's not a pressing thing for us.
In terms of figuring out the problem, they were very upfront about not being able to see inside things and behind wood, etc. I didn't want them to drill and see what was rotten and what wasn't, so I took the risk that the bill would come in over the estimate and it did. They didn't do any extra work without checking with me first and were willing to do the extra work even though it made the job longer. Given the unknowns, they charged by the hour which I wouldn't necessarily suggest, but I don't really know how different the final amount would have looked.
As far as the work, they did everything the right way and didn't try to cut corners and were very nice about it the whole time.
