Wanted: mandolin player familiar with Bluegrass/Americana styles. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help us record tracks for use in a community theatre production of Christopher Fry’s The Lady’s Not for Burning.

The job will focus on at least one of these areas:

1) Some songs we’d like to record are only available as sheet music. And, you guessed it, there’s no notation for mandolin. It will be up to you and your personal style to recreate them as you see fit with little input from the play’s artistic director.

2) If you’re great at playing by ear, we’d like to have you listen to a few tracks by a full band and re-imagine them for solo mandolin. Much like Seu Jorge’s David Bowie covers in The Life Aquatic, you’ll have the chance to interpret songs that may never have been intended for mandolin. We hope this will be a lot of fun for an experienced musician!

3) Are you a songwriter? Do you play traditional folk music and/or folk ballads? Send us some examples of your work, instrumental only, and we’ll feature them in the show!

Because we are a non-profit organization, we are unable to pay you for your time, but we will provide you with high quality recordings of the tracks you perform for us. This would be a great opportunity for someone who wants to create a demo to share examples of their playing style with the world. You will also be listed in the program as composer/musician for the production, and will have the opportunity to sell your merch at every performance. You’ll also receive 2 free tickets to any one of our 9 performances in February of 2011 in Davis Square.

We would like meet with you to determine mutual interest and talk about the production as soon as possible. Once you’ve signed on, you’ll have several months to work on your arrangements, independently. Any recording that needs to be done will take place in early November. You’ll be finished with all work on the project by New Year’s, 2011.

Hey, I have a coworker who plays mandolin. I'll pass this along to him. Do you have non-LJ contact info he could use to reach you if he's interested?

Would this require the musician to actually be in Massachusetts at any point, or could it all be done remotely? I know someone who might be a good choice (he's playing at Johnny D's tonight, actually) but he's about to move to North Carolina.

Sweeeeet. I'll e-mail him the above blurb (I don't think he's on LJ) and hopefully he is not too overwhelmed to get back to you ASAP.

Has this been sent to the T@F mailing list; I haven't seen it & I generally get any mailing from T@F between 5 and 493,457 times. If you send to me, I"ll forward to several non-LJ friends who may be a propos.
