A Bearded Dragon was found on 7/9/10 on Park Ave near Davis Sq.
Anyone missing their Bearded Dragon should contact Somerville Animal Control.

or email aterrio at somervillema dot gov

OK, so I am obviously NOT a reptile expert =)
My boyfriend took one look at what I have here and determined that it was not and iguana. We looked it up online (something I obviously should have done before I posted this-sorry!) and it appears to be a Bearded Dragon.
Sorry for the confusion!

Thanks!

surely you could google the latter, but a long, long time ago my mother's boss had two iguanas that we would sometimes uh...reptile-sit? i recall making them salads. seriously. hold the dressing.

Wow! You're having an interesting day...try this link for iguana care tips. Good luck!

Here's the part about food: Iguanas love squash of any kind. They also enjoy greens (collard, mustard, beet and dandelion are good choices). Spinach is high in iron, but should be kept at a minimal level as it can deplete other vitamin and mineral levels of your green buddy. Hibiscus flowers are a summertime favorite of iguanas. They love oranges and cantaloupe as well as honeydew and watermelon. Tiny dinosaurs also enjoy berries of all sorts, just be careful about the seeds. Grapes cut in quarters without seeds provide needed moisture.

make sure you find a definitive site -- i found three (different, overlapping) sets of information on three separate sites. :(

also, "iguanas" is the plural. no need for an apostrophe. :)

Woah. Weird... I was walking down Simpson this past weekend and noticed two hand made signs looking for a lost iguana. I'll check if they are still there.

Just out of curiosity, how does one *lose* and Iguana?

"Honey, have you seen seen my iguana? I'm sure I left it here next to my keys last night."

(All kidding aside, I do love that this forum/community may very well link the writer of the "lost iguana" signs with the critter in question. It's pretty cool what we have here.)

Yes, actually! Not me, but there are a bunch of signs in the area right now.

They're omnivores with a mostly-plants diet - as noted, calcium is definitely an issue for them, but that's really a long-term thing. You won't do it any harm not worrying about that for a few days, I don't think.

(And in a pinch, they'll even eat soft-style dog or cat food. As my mom found out when ours needed crushed-up calcium supplements in something soft due to said calcium issues... This was 20 years ago, granted.)

When our family had an iguana when I was a teen, she got out of her enclosure while being reptile-sat, climbed a window-screen, the screen tore, and she went exploring. The sitter went in to feed her, found no iguana and a torn screen, and was, understandably, distraught.

A friend of mine in college used to go everywhere with his iguana. It would hang out inside his shirt. And climb walls. (Not at the same time.)

Did it give you any trouble when you grabbed it? Some iguanas have pretty nasty temperaments (and others are love-bugs.)

Is this iguana more or less than 35 feet in length?

Signs Gone

Damn. The Lost Iguana signs are gone. Too coincidental for this to be a SECOND lost iguana though. I'm drawing up "FOUND" signs to hang on Simpson. Hopefully someone who knows the owner will see them.

they really like spinach and carrot peels. And fresh fruit.

dude, they go nuts for shredded carrots, but i believe they should also be done in moderation. i think dark greens are best for them.

The person might have just removed the signs because they put a typo in the contact information or something. They might put more up, unless they see yours first.
