There's now a big red "FOR RENT" sign and a cracked door window where Spün used to be. Now I feel more confident than ever about when they are and aren't going to be open.

I WANT TO BELIEVE

They're still open; they've just added "For Rent" signs to their menu.

The door was cracked as of last weekend! But at least it was open and there were people inside serving froyo.

Sad, they made very good froyo.
A shame the didn't have any savvy to go with it.

Well, at least I got to have dessert there once. Pretty tasty!

It didn't seem particularly well-managed at the time, though -- and when I heard about the bistro thing, I had to wonder whether they had any clue.

Web site's gone, too.

Maybe the landlord finally got tired of having a tenant who had no visible means of paying rent?

I've always felt that no good could come of unnecessary umlauts.

Judging by the number of people reporting open containers of not-very-fresh fruit covered in flies, I wonder if there were any health inspections involved, as well.

Anyone here remember Frusen Glädjé ? And Häagen-Dazs?

I walked by the other day and talked to the guy. He confirmed that they are closed for good.

Do you think he learned anything from this debacle, such as the importance of having regular hours and sticking to them?

Yes, someone should have mentioned to them that cutesy pseudo-Scandinavian names for frozen desserts got tired and clichéd in the mid-1980s.

If he is like most owners of failed enterprises, the lesson he took away is that the unappreciative public didn't grasp his genius.

Apparently the owner ran a BBQ joint before that was very successful. The difference was, that time he had a business partner to add the details to his big-picture plans. The moral of the story is, etc. etc.

Häagen-Dazs is still around. They have a store in the Berklee area, and another in the Burlington Mall.

I didn't know that. They used to be much more common. I recall one on Charles Street in Beacon Hill, and another in Harvard Square.
