I want to buy a hutch for my kitchen for storing food items etc. but am having trouble finding one that I like and that isn't way too expensive. Already checked out Ikea and craigslist. Circle Furniture is outside of my price range. With bowl and board gone, any other local suggestions?

It's a bit of a schlep, but I enjoy the solid wood hutch we got from the Millstore in Everett http://www.millstores.com/categorydetail.cfm?cattype=1&catcode=4A&pid=410

Good luck!

Have you tried unfinished furniture shops? There's one on Oxford Street right behind the Porter Square T or there's Economy Hardware in Central Square, although I get the impression their prices are less competitive than they once were. There are others locally, though they're not coming to mind just at the moment, but that might give you a different search term to try.

Having to finish or paint the piece yourself would add to the hassle of it, but would take the cost down.

I was going to suggest this shop on Oxford, too, or there's also that second-hand furniture shop on Elm Street right by the shopping center. Near the corner of Elm & Cherry, I think?

I haven't purchased myself, so I can't tell if the pricing is reasonable, but I walk by both often and they seem like they would at least have that type of piece.

Maybe try "dining hutch" and "kitchen hutch" on craigslist to screen out the bedroom stuff. Also, can you wait a week or two? As Sep 1 approaches you'll see lots more stuff on cl!

I actually love a lot of the furniture at Target. I'd definitely check out the website.

I bought a great hutch at the Jordan's clearance center at the Avon/Stoughton store a couple of years ago.

Used to be that Maverick Design in Allston was the place to go. Now they and the place on Beacon St. are both part of the same chain and their selection is good but the prices are not.

Unfinished wood hutch + decent prices = Mill Stores

I too was in the market for a kitchen hutch. It took me over a month of searching but I finally found something on craigslist that I was very happy with, and it was also dirt cheap. I recommend being patient and checking craigslist every couple of days.

It was pricey, but worth not having to do it ourselves. (We've gotten our kitchen stuff finished but not our bookcases). It was over five years ago so I both don't remember exactly, and assume the prices would be significantly different now.
