Cheap but Decent Haircut?

Sorry to add another 'hygiene' post.

I am looking for a haircut in Davis Square/surrounding Somerville area that won't cost me an arm and a leg, but will be professional (ie: not like a Supercuts cut or anything. I've had bad luck with those!).

Any advice?

salon femia, right in the heart of davis (next to JP licks), is fantastic. i've been going there for 2 years, and i love it. they're reasonable, yet are up on the latest trends (read: no supercuts disasters). ornella is the girl i go to, love love love her.

how reasonable is "Reasonable"??? I've had reasonable quoted at me for prices ranging from $35-$60.

What do you count as reasonable?
I got a great haircut from Kerri at Amal Niccoli (617.666.0722, on Broadway in Ball Square I think). It was $30 plus tip.

I had a good experience w/ Salonika, which is in Davis Sq. I think it is about $35 or so. It was $28 when I used to go, which was a few years ago.

i believe a cut there is around $30. considering that i used to pay $100 for my last stylist, i'd say that's reasonable. guess it depends on your own definition.

Heehee. I go to Monica's Beauty Salon in Cambridge - it's 377 Walden St, near the Fresh Pond area. Monica is Jamaican, very friendly, very motherly. I'm not sure what she charges just for cutting women's hair (I usually get my hair trimmed, not cut), but she charged my boyfriend just $10 for his hair cut. She's really good! I've become a regular :)

Oh, the only thing about Monica's is that she's a little on the slow side - but I don't mind that :) The people there are very friendly and love to shoot the breeze, so I'm never bored.

This is good to know...I've been looking for recommendations for the area. My hair is getting far too long and I get anxious about stylists getting intimidated by my hair (very thick, long and wavy). I'll give them a shot. :)
