I remember some recent discussion about Blues dancing here, so wanted to point out to the curious (or addicted) that Artisan's Asylum is organizing a one-shot introductory Blues dancing class on Saturday in Union Square, ending early enough for everyone to go to What the Fluff?

Description:

You do not have two left feet.

You can, in fact, hear the beat.

It is possible for you to have a really good time on the dance floor.

Come challenge all of your assumptions about dancing at Dancing for Geeks, a series of dance lessons (three 1-hour lessons with 15 minute breaks in between) specifically designed to teach people who think they can't dance. Yes - this workshop is for you. We promise it's easy to learn if you have the right teachers, and we promise it's not painful!

Gui Cavalcanti and Jenn Martinez will be teaching the class how to Blues dance, an older form of partner dancing that was popular alongside swing dancing in the early to mid 1900s that has been undergoing a revolution in the past few years. Blues dancing is a very free form, improvisational dance form with few basic steps and a bunch of rules of thumb that can easily broken down into fundamental physical principles. Gui and Jenn have developed an entire curriculum around teaching those physical principles (in fact, the name of their dance studio is Free Body Studios... bonus points if you get the reference), and teaching people to dance who otherwise might have assumed they couldn't.

After the dance, students will be well prepared to attend Blues Cafe that night, a monthly Blues and swing dance that often features live music.
