The confirmed HONK! band count is currently at 23, with one to two new ones being added weekly. Festival updates can be found at http://www.honkfest.org, http://twitter.com/honkfest/, and http://www.facebook.com/honkfestival, or by calling 617-383-HONK (4665).

Even when the final count is in, there will still be no stopping individuals who suddenly feel the need to jump in at the last minute. In today's parlance, HONK! 2010 already has an app for that! Opportunities abound not only for festival invitees but for the spur of the moment merry maker, including a chance to play music with the October 10th impromptu “community band” made up of individual musicians, who are not affiliated with any of the 2010 HONK! bands, but are interested in participating in the gigantic HONK! Parade to Reclaim the Streets for Horns, Bikes and Feet. Contact info@honkfest.org if interested in being in the parade or if you need further information on anything HONK-related.

At this writing the following bands will be participating, listed in alphabetical order: AfroBrazil, Barrage Band Orchestra, Black Bear Combo, Brass Liberation Orchestra, Bread and Puppet Circus Band, Detroit Party Marching Band, Dirty Water Brass Band, DJA-Rara, Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, Environmental Encroachment, Expandable Brass Band, Extraordinary Rendition Band, Factory Seconds, Himalayas, Leftist Marching Band, Minor Mishap Marching Band, Rude Mechanical Orchestra, Second Line Social Aid & Pleasure Society Brass Band, Seed and Feed Marching Abominables, Springville All Star Marching Band, tint(A)nar, Veveritse, and What Cheer? Brigade.

If you put http:// in front of those URLs, LiveJournal will automatically turn them into live links.

Oh, I was just wondering when Honk was this year, and what a bummer! It's the weekend of my brother's wedding in Pittsburgh. :(

I guess I'll be the first to say: can't wait for Honk 2011! haha.

It's always the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. Which is going to be a big problem for 2011, since that is also Yom Kippur.

Oh, interesting. Clearly, I'm not so great with dates; I never realized it was always the same weekend, just knew to look out for it in October.

I guess the "schedule now set" with the dates, in the title, made it seem (to me) like there had been a question of the schedule. :)

Nooooooo! Especially cos I already have to miss this year's HONK.

I wonder if there's any way they'd consider shifting weekends because of the holiday. A Lot of folks who go, and who play, are Jewish.
