Admittedly I am a total sucker for total trash-throwing politics, but this election season has gotten a little out of control even for me (even the auditors race has turned dirty -- what does the auditor even do??). So I'd like to find some non-biased info on the candidates and the ballot initiatives which outlines what they stand for etc. I tried a google search, but found just trash talk.

Any suggestions?

Ballotpedia.org has a lot of information regarding all the races.

You can also try the League of Women Voters:

or vote-ma.org, you put in your address and get out a pseudo-sample ballot. Of course, this doesn't list the candidates' positions, just a sample ballot.

Davis Square LJ is where *I* always go for serious, non-biased, non-trash-talking, non-snarky information.

yep. You're sure to get useful information here.

I dunno, seemed like the political chatter we've had here in the past (cf. Sciortino vs. Trane, 2008) has been pretty levelheaded - as opposed to what passes for commentary someplace like, say, the Somerville News. Although it's pretty clear where most posters sympathies lie, the accompanying discussion is reasonably civil.

The Boston Globe sent questionnaires to the various candidates:
http://www10.thevoterguide.org/v/boston/get-started.do

I think some of their questions are weird, and the interface is a bit cumbersome, but it is unbiased information.

Whoops! Responded to the wrong comment (though I do know about vote-ma.org and it is very helpful.)

Wow, this has been extraordinarily helpful, at least for me. Thanks for sharing this!

I also like votesmart.org for this sort of thing, though their information for somebody with no legislative record, especially in minor races, is scant.
