Just as a point of information, last night I was in Winter Hill, and I saw a parking ticket writer (what do you call them...meter maids? for residential parking?) writing out tickets on Heath Street near the corner of Temple, sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 pm Wednesday evening.

Watch out for those tickets! They're on to you!

Were they ticketing too soon, or too late, that evening? I'm not familiar with the rules on that street.

They are out frequently at night looking for cars without permits.

Also, Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature.

I'm not sure why it's news that people parked illegally were getting ticketed? Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, and Boston have always ticketed at all hours.

They may be more likely to ticket when it's just hours before permit parking restrictions are lifted. I've seen active ticketing Saturday just before midnight on Orchard St, for example, but there are plenty of parking enforcement officers on duty every night.

But I think I'm missing the purpose of this post.

Parking Control Officer, or "PCO," officially.

it might be an area where people usually park after a certain hour that's never been legal but usually isn't ticketed. i'm not familiar with this one in particular but -

for example, when i used to go to allston every friday, i would park in the tj maxx lot. it's illegal but TONS of people parked there without issue. i was glad to be warned when the tow companies finally started getting called in.

and in cambridge, they often don't ticket at night. we often have guests that park where it is 'permit only' but if it isn't habitual (multiple nights in a row same spot), they've never gotten tickets. if someone saw meter maids out at this time of night there, i'd like to know to warn guests.

So, just to be clear... you are actually advocating posting to DSLJ anytime someone sees an officer ticketing a car anywhere in Somerville after 8pm? :)

Hell, they ticket the ones with permits too. I saw a car parked in front of my house the other day with a permit in the window that got ticketed for "permit parking", even though everything was completely legit. The PCOs ignore visitor permits, knowing that people aren't going to take a half a day off from work to come contest a ticket.

I'm all for drivers/parkers following the law - I just wish T&P would. too....

lol!!

no, certainly not ;p especially since of all the places i've lived or spent time in around here in the last ten years, brighton and somerville are certainly tied for sniper meter maids at any time of day/night so that would be a LOT of posts.

but since i don't live around here anymore, and only lived in arlington for the better part of a year, i wasn't sure if this was one of those places that is notorious for being able to park despite signs/laws saying otherwise if you couldn't find a legal spot.

I spent a lot of time at that corner over the summer, and I saw the PCOs driving/walking by more regularly than I would have expected. Somerville isn't kidding about keeping people who don't live there out.

Parking Control Officers do not rest.

If you see one doing this, go out and get a photo ASAP of the ticket and the clearly visible visitor permit. Make sure it's time-stamped.

They never tire and don't need food. Their eyes emit light and they are cloaked in invisibility.

I hardly ever see meter maids in Cambridge after 7:30 pm, though I occasionally do near the bigger squares.

I used to live in that neighborhood (right around the corner of Heath St, in fact). I cannot think of a neighborhood less in need of resident permit parking.
