I was thinking just yesterday about posting that Taza is (as of last weekend) now offering tours of their factory, but then I totally forgot. It is $5 to take the tour, and they happen Thursdays and Fridays at 4pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm and 3pm. However, if any of y'all are interested, for $5 you can tour the factory and get $5 of chocolate from their factory store.
I am going to use mine towards the Taza/Bittermens collaboration, chocolate extract, available here, see if I don't. :-)

Date: 2010-12-19 07:50 am (UTC)They describe it thus: "Thursdays at 4pm, Fridays at 4pm, and Saturdays at 1pm and 3pm! Reservations are required. You will be able to sample chocolate, learn about cocoa beans and see the amazing machinery used to make traditional stone ground chocolate in this artisan bean-to-bar chocolate factory. Tour is 1 hour."
What were the free tours like? If you describe them we can compare after someone takes the paid one.

Date: 2010-12-20 04:33 pm (UTC)The big change is that they used to only do tours on special occasions, and now they have them regularly-scheduled, which I think is great. It was certainly interesting, and worth doing.
It also sounds like it's not a money-making thing, but a charity thing, so using the groupon is sorta like taking money away from the charity. Uh oh. I recommend dropping a buck or two in the bucket, anyway. :)
* Which is what Sam Adams does for their tours as well, although in their case it's always optional. As a side note, I totally recommend the Sam Adams tour, too.
