Hi all,
Sorry that this is probably Massachusetts specific rather than Davis Square specific, per se, but since there seemed to be a number of people who know about landlord/tenant responsibilities here, thought I'd ask...

We rent, and have a parking space in the driveway next to the house, and some ice fell off the roof and dented the roof of the car. Is the landlord responsible for any part of the cost of the repair, or not, since it's weather+house?

Either way, any recommendations for a place around here to fix it? -- I did see the thread from last summer with some recommendations. I'd specifically like someone who will tell me honestly how important it is or is not to fix, since I suppose I could live with the dent if it doesn't affect anything else about the safety or running of the car.

thanks!

This is not legal advice, as I don't know the specifics of your situation, however I will say that "damage from ice" law is inordinately complex. If you have insurance that would cover it, that might be easier! If it is really pricey to fix, you may want to talk to a lawyer.

It could well be the sort of thing that is covered by the landlord's property insurance (liability for random crap happening on their property).

If you don't want to ask the landlord, call your car insurance company and ask them - if your claim can possibly be billed to another company, they will know.

I'd be surprised if it were the landlord's responsibility, but stranger things exist in the legal codes.

As for where to take it, I strongly recommend the guys at Arco Tire&Services up in Teele square. Honest guys, fast workers, they're awesome.

We've had good experiences with Dick's Auto Body. They're particularly good at dealing with insurance for you, if that ends up being useful.

The fellas at Arco are AWESOME; I'm not sure that they do bodywork, though. Here's a link to their website: http://www.procarcarezone.com/shops/arco_tire__service.com . If they're not equipped to fix it, they will know the name of a reputable body shop.
