Just a warning that the door lock at the Bank of America ATM at 253 Elm St. (aka the one next to Starbucks)is broken--you can get in, no problem, but, much like the Hotel California, you can never leave. (I found this out w/in the last half-hour, when I went to make a deposit, and the young woman ahead of me couldn't get out. Fortunately, a passerby thought to swipe his card, and the door opens just fine to let you in, but the lock jams in such a way that you can't get out.) I've just gotten off the phone w/BoA, who say they're sending a tech out to fix it ASAP (assuming someone else hasn't gotten stuck and called 911, in which case the Somerville PD may be getting in touch w/BoA), but you might want to use the ATMs at the bank on Highland Ave.

This happened to me too! The other person in the ATM with me pointed out that you can unlock it by pressing the little white button next to the door.

BofA is finally making literal some of their traditional banking practices.

I used the door a couple minutes ago. It's a little sticky but it did open after I fiddled with it for a few seconds; I didn't even need to use the white button.

Thanks for posting this, I hope BofA isn't handling this with their usual approach to customer service... :(

That was our experience last night, too.

I don't know if you tried this, but I had that issue yesterday. There's like a doorbell thing next to the door on the inside, and that got it to open for me...

Just wanna say...perhaps my experience is atypical but I've been a BoA customer for years and have never received bad customer service. (In fact recently when I had need of special customer service the service I received was excellent.)

Two years ago that very ATM ate my card (not issued by BoA, FWIW) for no reason at all. There was no number posted to call about problems, so I had to wait until a weekday to report it. BoA was completely unhelpful and acted like I was wasting their time to bother complaining about it. I've never used it since, and never use BoA machines unless I have no other option. *ptui*

I should have suggested this before, but ... how about putting a sign on the outside saying "DO NOT USE - YOU WILL BE LOCKED IN IF YOU TRY!"

Did you call or visit the Highland Ave. BoA branch? Those are probably the people responsible for the Elm Street ATM.
