Somerville Street Cleaning begins Monday, April 4

Check your street's parking signs for the days this will affect you. Generally it's twice a month on each side of the street, from 8 am to noon.

Edit: Due to "inclement weather", street sweeping is cancelled for Friday, April 1. I've updated this post appropriately (thanks, pzykotic).

Does anyone know why they decided not go with the 8-2 sweeping hours? This is also mentioned in the announcement.

Yes, I'd like the city to post things like this here.

(Also, I'd like to draw your attention to this -- surely this friend of mine has been wronged by the city and deserves to get his circa-$100 back.)

Ron, I saw that post about the billing problem. Who did they talk to? I'm sure the city could find someway to fix the situation. I am not in that office though, so I personally couldn't fix it.

Also just to clear something up Denise Taylor isn't in Somerville 311, she works out of the Somerstat office. I saw that you posted on her FB page about this story, but really there isn't much she can do about it in her office.

A ResiStat e-mail I just got today explains:

"[D]espite last fall’s decision to extend the end of daytime street sweeping hours from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., no sweeping will be carried out and no tickets will be issued after 12 p.m. After residents voiced concerns that the waterless street sweepers in use last year were not cleaning the streets effectively, a decision was made to return to traditional street sweeping. Because water-based sweepers work more quickly, street sweeping hours were returned to the 8 a.m. to noon schedule."
