This is more a Cambridge question, but those communities really aren't that active, so I hope it's OK to ask this here.

Does anyone know if resident/visitor's permits are required to park in resident areas during holidays? I know meters are free, but it would be easier on my guest if they could park near my apartment in Cambridgeport. Thanks.

Holidays are fine; they're just like Sundays, so no permits necessary.

as someone currently in cambridgeport, the signs should say "permit parking only (except sundays and holidays)"

further, i've found (especially at night) if it's a one time deal you won't get a ticket even if it's at a time that isn't legal. once they know your car however, prepare to be sniped! :p

Cambridge's signs don't mention holidays, but meters and resident permits are not in effect on the 9 federal holidays plus Patriot's Day.

It gets tricky when a date-fixed holiday falls on a weekend and the federal observance is on the nearest weekday. For example, if Christmas was on a Saturday, the federal observance would be Friday. When that happens, I'd call the city to check if both days have free parking.
