Help HONK! Happen
Jul. 31st, 2011 12:20 amLong time listener, first time caller/poster.
I'm one of the people who helps organize the HONK! festival that takes place right here in Somerville each year. If you haven't heard of it, HONK! is a festival of activist street bands that brings music and spectacle to all corners of Davis Square one day of the year, bands to community centers/areas, a community parade from Davis to Harvard Square, and some other cool stuff. More info can be found at www.honkfest.org.
I wanted to let you know two things about HONK! this year:
1) HONK! is happening a week early this year on October 1st, 2nd and 3rd instead of our usual Columbus Day weekend schedule so we don't conflict with Yom Kippur.
2) If you dig HONK! as much as I do and want to support it, please consider contributing to our Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to help bring bands from afar (only 18 days left!):
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dnb/2011-honk-festival-of-activist-street-bands
(anything you can do to pass that URL around to other HONK! fans would be much appreciated)
Hope to see you all at HONK! this year!

Date: 2011-07-31 04:59 am (UTC)This rescheduling has made a number of things tricky; you've pointed out one of them. PRONK! is indeed happening on October 3rd, the same day we will be holding a symposium at Harvard and the HONK! in the Neighborhoods (bands at some of the Boys and Girls Clubs). We're working very closely with the PRONK! organizers to make this all work out as well as possible.
