Haircuts and Magnetic Sheets

Two unrelated questions:

= I'm looking for a cheap wash+cut. I have places I like for styling, but I'm still in my post-partum hair loss stage and I just want a trim of my existing cut to hopefully get things a little more under control. We have in close range a SuperCuts, GreatCuts, and Hair Cuttery, all of which have $15 wash & cuts. Which is best? Are any to be avoided?

= Where nearby do you think would have rolls of magnetic sheeting? 8.5x11 won't be large enough. I've tried a smattering of hardware and art supply stores to no avail. (Alternately, if you have some large sheets or a roll that you're willing to part with for love or money, let me know.)

When I get home from work, I'll see if I can find my magnetic sheeting--it's definitely bigger than 8.5x11, but has been stored rolled up (so not a good idea if you need it to be perfectly flat over a large area, though you might be able to re-flatten it over time). If I can find it, I'll contact you to see if it would work for you, I'm definitely not planning on using it for anything.

As far as haircuts, the cheap chains are hit or miss, but I've had decent luck as long as I can point at the book and say "do that one".

I've had Fast Phil's (on Mass Ave) recommended to me, but I don't know if they do washes. Just fast cuts for $10.

I really like Kiki and Art on Beacon St (close to Porter square). I've gotten a $15 haircut, and don't know how much it is for a wash. They're super friendly, and always make me feel good when I go in, and they do a fantastic job.

Yeah, when I had the 'do pictured above (didn't last long), I was fine with just a cut, but when my hair is long I must have a wash, too. :)

caveat emptor: lots of places advertise "wash & cut" for cheap, but fail to mention that drying is not included. okay now, not so fabulous in mid-winter.

Housemate A has liked her haircuts from the Supercuts on Mass Ave near the woodworking place. I know they do washes.

I have had probably a 75% success rate at the Supercuts, which I suppose isn't too bad. It really depends on who you get, of course.

I can imagine a future where a hairstyle can be downloaded into a helmet-like thing that you lower over your head and does the 'do. Not real soon, though...

It's the closest of the three options, anyway, though T-ing a couple of stops isn't a big deal, either. I'm mostly just desperate to see if a proper trim does anything to help the current sorry state of my head. Since it may not, I don't want to shell out for my usual haunts.

I can't remember anyone's name, it's been awhile (i usually only get my hair cut every 1-2 years).

although, I just remembered, my most recent hair cut was at Elite Barber, on Mass Ave right by where the bike path crosses (near Hanna Sushi, the little asian market, and Joe Sent Me). I think it was $17 for the cut. can't remember if she does a wash, though. She cuts my son's hair for $10 and does a great job with him. . .
