We have not actually stayed in shelters; the experiences of others and our own circumstances that would make us targets are the main reasons that a shelter wouldn't work for us, in addition to curfews (I sometimes need to stay out late to make money selling jewelry), the amount of stuff we have... Another huge reason is that we help each other a lot with disability-related stuff, and being separated is not an option. If family-style shelters were open to people without kids, that would change things a lot. I'll try to remember to expand on this in a blog post soon.
