Edited to add: We found a handyman to open the hole and two little squirrels popped out! Real legit pest control is coming Friday to do any trapping and disinfecting and plugging. The saga ends there we hope!

you all for your pest control recommendations the other day. Our landlord has someone coming on Friday. We have one somewhat urgent question.

The last handyman trapped one squirrel in the hole when he blocked it off. It has been two days and now the squirrel's activity sounds weak. If it dies, we will have rotting-squirrel stench in the house for weeks. The landlord seems not to understand the magnitude of the stench issue among other things.

We are looking for someone who can come out with a three-story ladder and open the hole. Then the squirrel can get out and the actual pest control people will do it up right on Friday. Anyone? Any suggestions for someone who may be able to do this today? We are getting desperate.

Thanks!

I think you have two options: just wait or take matters into your own hands.

I'd suggest the latter. Call your own pest control company, have them handle the entire operation, and deduct it from your next rent payment. You're being far too deferential here. There were a number of good recommendations in the last thread.

Glad to hear this. Beyond the inconvenience, the thought of a trapped animal dying is pretty disturbing. I'm sure that you are feeling relieved on many levels. Good luck.

Glad to hear this. Is the hole now blocked off again, I hope?

Remember to document everything, with timestamps too. Take pictures of any damage.

In the unlikely event you need to take your landlord to court (or threaten to!) this kind of documentation is absolutely invaluable.
