Are you allowed to park at a meter that says "FAIL" in Somerville? I thought you weren't allowed, but a friend seems to think that you can park at a FAIL meter for up to two hours.

Thanks, y'all.

I always thought you were allowed two hour parking at a broken/fail meter, but who knows with all the new regs Somerville has for parking? :)

I'd suggest talking to one of the parking enforcement officers. They're around just about all the time and they'll have the most up to date info on parking regulations.

The same parking enforcement officers who ticket cars BEFORE the snow emergency ticketing window opens? (http://davis-square.livejournal.com/2235243.html)

I wouldn't feel very confident about them knowing which side of the street is an even side if you gave them three guesses.

I hear what you're saying but since these are the folks who give out tickets, these are the people who you want to consult as to whether you are going to get a ticket... unless you have enough free time on your hands to contest the ticket.

There's one parking question I *still* don't know the answer to:

On major streets that don't have meters, most parking signs say "2 hour parking except by permit 8 AM - 2:30 AM, permit parking only 2:30 AM - 8 AM". Does that apply on Sunday?

It would be weird if it did. They'd have to have meter maids on duty just for this minority of blocks. And it would make the rules more restrictive on these streets than on quiet residential streets, which is the opposite of how it is the rest of the week.

Maybe at some point I'll make the effort to ask 311.

I have always assumed, and had it borne out in lack of tickets to my visitors, that these streets are free-for-all on Sundays. But I too would like to know *for sure*.
