AJ & I are in Salem, after being offered temporary housing and then finding that social services and (even short-term) housing options seem to be much more us-friendly here, especially with that whole thing where Salem is chock full o' pagans.
AJ & I should be starting to give tours at the World Of Witches Museum very soon. It'll be super part-time at least to start, because of disabilities and not wanting to disappoint the kind folks we'll be working with/for, but we'll see how we hold up and they seem very willing to work with us as far as needed accommodations.
I'm still waiting to find out whether I get to sell jewelry at the Winter Farmer's Market that starts next month and looking into a peddler's license, since I'm not able to sell my jewelry on the street here the way that I have in Boston and Somerville. I do have some pieces on display at New England Magic Shop and am trying to get more jewelry into other local stores, as well as reopen my Etsy shop once I find the rogue camera cord and have funds to pay fees from the summer.
Thanks to a friend helping us out with funds the past two weeks, we've been staying at a fleabag hotel in the area. There's only one bathroom per floor, but it hasn't been too bad so far except when we discovered the vomit explosion all over the hall and bathroom the other night. The biggest challenge has been having enough food and something akin to adequate nutrition while we've been without refrigeration or cooking facilities. (It's also kind of painful to think about having spent $500 here for two weeks, when that could have paid for a room in an apartment with an actual kitchen for a month for that amount... But we'd have needed the money upfront to pay for a month's rent.)
Anyway, we're hanging in here, working hard to find stability, and keeping fingers and toes crossed. It's nice that there's so much within walking distance and that there are buses when we need them, but there are definitely a lot of people and things we miss, being away from the city for almost a month now.
And a quick update...
