I am curious what you mean by body brushing? I have seen this offered both for dealing with lymph issues and as a cosmetic treatment, and I wonder where on the spectrum you fall.

I've been visiting somerville_lmt for a year now and it's always a welcome highlight of the month. Want to know where I go after a 20 mile kayak paddle? Right here. She has some special kung-fu for getting absurdly deep underneath my shoulders; I don't know how she does it but I feel great whenever I leave her office.

Disclosure: somerville_lmt is a friend, but I wouldn't recommend her if she weren't also good.

I also wish to highly recommend Somerville Massage. Sara is pretty amazing at working out muscle issues and was very good with some of my pre-existing physical issues. I learned a lot when I went to her and felt wonderful when I left each appointment.

I'm definitely going back as soon as I get a permanent job.

Thank you for your question. Body brushing (also called dry brushing), as I practice it, is meant to stimulate the nerves and invigorate the body. There is a practical/cosmetic aspect to it - it does clear off superficial dead skin cells. In a massage context, I like to do it at the beginning for contrast - your nerves are stimulated by the brushing, then soothed by the massage. Body brushing feels good; if you like having your back scratched, you'll probably like body brushing.
