I am looking for a place to pick up something for dessert after work tonight on my way to a date (dinner at a girl's house). Is there any place preferably right in Davis that I could grab anything that would be appropriate, besides Kickass Cupcakes?

It's not right IN Davis (Broadway and Willow), but Lyndell's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lyndells-bakery-somerville-2) has good reviews.

I do like Kickass, but I feel like they're rather expensive for the size of cupcake that you get. :/

Diesel Cafe has nice baked goods from Rosie's -- super-rich brownies and such.

Or you could get a dessert crepe from Mr Crepe (strawberry-nutella, yum) -- but then you'll want to eat dessert first, while it's still hot.

Lyndell's closes early (6 pm) so it might not be an option. If the Farmer's Market is still happening, you might be able to grab something there?

If you're looking for something unusual, you could look at the Italian grocer over on Highland, or the market next to Goodwill that has a variety of Indian goodies.

Or, something from Redbones... I know their pie is supposedly quite popular.

Seriously, Lyndell's. Their cupcakes and half moons are the stuff of my sweetest dreams.

I believe JP Licks has ice cream cakes. And about a block from the Square, Pemberton Farms has pies and cakes (including little fancy ones) that are perfect for a date.

Farmer's market closes at 6 pm too. (And after this week, it closes at 5 pm)

When Pigs Fly has little bundt-shaped cakes (that they call bread pudding, but really, they're cakes) in a couple of flavors; they're open until 7.

Didn't someone recently post that Three Little Figs, on Highland is now open? IIRC, that poster seemed quite impressed with their quality and varity. This might be worth looking into.

Pemberton has really amazingly wonderful cookies, too, but they're more like 3-4 blocks from the square.

When I very first moved to this area, we went to Mike's and got cannoli. I thought it was entirely awesome at the time! But be warned that this perception is probably immensely coloured by my extreme excitement about the move, and it may have been myself, and not the cannoli, that was actually full of joy.

Or you could just bring ice cream ;)

If you're coming home on the Red Line from Boston, there's a second Lyndell's on Prospect Street in Cambridge (formerly Carberry's Bakery). That location is open until 8 pm, according to their website.

Petsi Pies should be open late enough! Oh man, their pies, so good. Call ahead and order a pie though, last time I just showed up, they were out of the pie I wanted.

also depending how upscale you want to get, Dave's Fresh Pasta has a large collection of cheeses and some really lovely chocolate selections (by which I mean solid blocks of really nice chocolate, not a box of cremes or something). They occasionally have baked goods, too. And their wine room has a few lovely port and ice wine selections.

We really like the cannoli from Sessa's on Highland. Filled while you wait, and a pretty romantic option all 'round.

Again, not in Davis, but a short drive to Medford Square : Moderd Pastry (http://www.modernpastry.com/). Sara owns and runs this shop, and she is the daughter of the owners who opened up the original store in the North End.

The stuff is unbelievable. Yes, they're mostly Italian pastries, but sooo, sooo good! They make THE traditional Italian rum cake with whipped creme frosting and fruit fillings, and frankly, I don't think anyone else beats them. Personally, I can't compare them to Mikes cause frankly I've never had Mikes (yes, I'm a bit biased...), and never had Lyndell's either (OH THE SHAME!). If I'm going to drive to Lyndell's, I'll just head over another mile or so and go to Modern.

Yeah, check out Sessa's (someone else mentioned as Italian grocer on Highland) sometime.
