From the Somerville PD

On the weekend of May 7 and May 8, an Arkansas-based group calling itself "White Revolution" is planning to protest Holocaust remembrance events being held in the Boston area. The group has stated its intention to use 93 School Street in Somerville as a meeting place on Saturday afternoon, May 7, before staging events later in the day at Lexington and Concord.

This gathering has not been sanctioned by the City of Somerville and no permits have been issued for any kind of meeting, demonstration, or parade.

The City is concerned that a large group may assemble -unsanctioned - on School Street and that other groups and individuals may come to protest the gathering. In order to lessen congestion in the neighborhood and to help ensure public safety, parking will not be allowed on School Street and portions of Oxford, Avon, Berkeley, and Prescott Streets on Saturday May 7, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some roads may be closed briefly.

The Somerville Police Department does not anticipate any public safety problems but residents can be assured the department will take every action necessary to minimize disruptions and to ensure the safety of any and all citizens. The Police Department also encourages citizens who do not live in the neighborhood to stay away from the area in order to minimize congestion and public safety concerns.
