Seeking birthday cake

My awesome roommate celebrates her birthday today and I would like to get her a cake (I baked her a cake exactly once, and it was a sad cake).

There is a lovely recommendations post (http://davis-square.livejournal.com/2760867.html) and I hope to have time to call those bakeries. But in the meantime, dear D3 folks, I have a more detailed question for you:
Where can I get a particularly awesome carrot cake, lemon cake, or red velvet cake? Points for really tasty frosting and decorations.

Edited to add: The easiest seems to be red velvet cupcakes from Petsi Pies. They've kindly put half a dozen aside for me. Thank you, all of you!

Sounds like Rosie's would be your best bet near Somerville.

I love the red velvet cupcakes at Petsi Pies too. I've never seen a birthday cake there though.

Cakes and cupcakes at Lyndell's are delicious, but they're much more regular (chocolate, yellow cake, etc.).

Dunno if Central Square is too far afield for you, but Flour (http://flourbakery.com/) has a wicked good carrot cake. (We weren't impressed by their lemon-raspberry cake, but I for one just am not a big lemon cake person period.)
