Looking for two apartments

davis_squareSome friends and I are contemplating finding two apartments in the same house in Davis Square for the fall, but we're not sure how to go about doing this.
The ideal situation would be, I think, to rent an entire house, consisting of one two-bedroom apartment and one three-bedroom apartment. We'd also be interested in two apartments of those approximate sizes in a larger building (though strongly preferring a house to an apartment complex). We'd also be interested in situations less private than two totally separate apartments.
My intuition, though, is that landlords who have a house with two apartments open generally would advertise them separately. So, DSLJ ...
1) Any idea how we should search for this thing? (Search for "two kitchens"? Look for houses currently being renovated?)
2) Any landlords on here who have this situation and would like some wonderful, responsible tenants?
3) Is now the right time to be looking if we want to move in September?
