Japan Society and Harvard University's Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies will be co-hosting a classical concert to commemorate the U.S.-Japan Cherry Blossom Centennial (the Japanese government donated 3,000 cherry blossom trees to the U.S. in 1912). Proceeds from the concert will be donated to help support the victims of the March 2011 earthquake/tsunami disaster.

Celebrate the Japan-United States Cherry Blossom Centennial, May 1, 2012 in Sanders Theatre, with a concert by Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo (KST), one of Japan’s foremost chamber orchestras.
Founded in 1995, the orchestra is making its inaugural tour of the United States in honor of Japan’s 1912 gift of cherry trees to the United States with Harvard as one of the venues for its four-city tour.
The program, led by Swiss conductor Thierry Fischer and featuring renowned pianist Yu Kosuge, will include Mozart’s Overture from Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat major, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major “Eroica.”
