The Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission relicensing hearing about the Dilboy Post VFW happened this afternoon, after a one-day delay. The ABCC heard two items:

- a change in the directors and officers of the Post
- a reduction in capacity to 71 seats in the basement (private veterans' club), and either 115 chairs with tables or 221 chairs only on the first floor (publicly rentable main hall)

The commission did not make any decision at the hearing, and informed the Dilboy representatives that their decision would be sent by mail. The Post has been closed since January 3rd.

Why does a problem with their alcohol license/permit result in the whole post being closed?

The ABCC requires that private clubs such as Moose, Elk, veterans, and fraternal organizations, who serve alcohol, notify them (the ABCC) every time there is a change in the status of the Board of Directors. Most private clubs are unaware of this requirement because it's not enforced or really regulated. The last time the Dilboy submitted the paperwork was 30 years ago. The folks who opposed the Dilboy re-opening went to the ABCC after finding the requirement and opened a request to determine whether or not the Post had submitted this paperwork. On finding that they hadn't, the Post was closed back down.

The Post re-submitted several times and each time, the papers were kicked back for error corrections on the form. That's what led to the delay in the hearing to re-open.

There was never a problem with our liquor license itself.
