I wasn't intending to come off as utterly ignorant, small-minded, and mentally lazy; I guess that's what semantics can do. Let me rephrase:
If we are to take Knucklebones' word at face value, then -- worst case scenario -- their neighbor filed a police report to complain about a bunch of young kids playing in the yard next to his house for about half an hour at a time, and in doing so, got the place shut down. I don't know about you, but I've had to deal with much worse noise issues from neighbors than giggling little kids, and it's not something that I'd go to the police about.
As you say, we only have their side of the story. But unless they're lying through their teeth or there's a whole crazy history between them and this mysterious neighbor, there are few scenarios that make this person look any better.
