The Somerville Board of Aldermen are considering regulations on mobile
food vending in the City. There will be a public hearing on July 10,
2012 at 6 pm at City Hall to discuss the issue.

Do you have any sense of what they're leaning towards doing, or what people plan to go there to say?

Some earlier discussion is here.

My strong preference is for the city to enforce only health and food safety regulations, and collect parking fees, but otherwise let the market decide what times and locations are best for food trucks.

If Somerville were truly a progressive city we'd be promoting cocktail trucks as well...

Too bad about the public drinking laws....

There are already public wine tastings at the outdoor Davis and Union square farmers' markets. At least half the vendors at the new Swirl and Slice market on Thursday nights in Union Square seem to be wineries.

A couple of years ago, the board of aldermen made some change to the public drinking laws to allow Redbones to have outdoor events with beer when they close Chester Street.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I'd just assumed that the state's public drinking laws would apply here.
