Does the keychain have any loyalty card fobs attached (Shaw's, CVS, or the like)? If so, the stores may be able to help track the owner down.

I would possibly bring them to the police if you can't find the owners in a few days --if I didn't use the internet (or more likely, livejournal), that would be the first place I would look for something so valuable.
