I know, I know. It's lovely out.  Sandy is lurking out there, though, and a genuine cause for concern.
It looks like the last SomerStreets event of the year, Sunday's Monster Mashed-Up festival on Somerville Ave, will be fine.

But please start now to plan ahead  for Monday and Tuesday.  The storm could still miss us. At this point, however, nobody in federal, state or local emergency management thinks we're going to get off scot-free.  (BTW,this term is in no way an ethnic slur, just sturdy Olde English.)

We'll be in touch as we know more.

Tom: Where are we supposed to be able to get these sandbags that they suggest we put near doors/windows? I could really use a few around my humble abode (seeing as it's (a) for all intents & purposes a basement apartment, and (b) we've had flooding problems twice in recent years, once in Feb. 2008 & once in July 2010--you know, the storm that flooded the Public Safety Building AND the McGrath Highway?), but I have no idea where to get them. I e-mailed my alderman, Sean O'Donovan, and he suggested calling 311/DPW/the Mayor's office, but 311 didn't think the City had any/didn't know where else they could be found, and I doubt Mayor Joe wants me bothering him about this. I have the added complication of being carless & not knowing how to drive, but if there's a place in town I can get sandbags, I can try to take a cab if necessary.

Help, me, O Voice of Somerville! My cat's too arthritic to jump up on my bed to escape the rising waters, and I'm too damn old & tired to put up with this for the 3rd time in 5 years... (In the meantime, I'll be cutting down brush out front & cleaning out the back storm drain tomorrow, in the hope that helps.)

I'll never hear that term the same way again!

Sandy's supposed to bang a hard left at Delaware and plow into Pennsylvania, but, worst comes to worst, pack up the Princess and head over here. We'll figure it out as we go.

I kind of think this should be "Our house has been Scot-free ever since Scot left."

Tom, can somebody add a time/date stamp to the alert information on the Somerville website? Something like, "This was last updated on October xx at xx:xx am/pm." Forecasts can change dramatically in a 6-hour period, and it's useful to know which forecast a warning was based on.
