Early childhood fair, the Somerville version : Saturday November 17

Somerville Early Childhood Literacy Fair

· Healey School , 5 Meacham St, Somerville

There will be a costumed Curious George, activities from the zoo, aquarium, museum of science, children's museum; you can take home a free book, and find info about programs in Somerville for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

We went last year, it was a great event!

I don't know what happened here -- maybe an LJ bug? -- but somehow all of the white space got stripped out of your post.

Is this worth going to if you live in Arlington rather than Somerville, or is it more specifically geared locally?

For fun on-site activities (seeing animals from the zoo table, doing crafts or counting activities or reading stories, etc), it's definitely worth it for non-Somerville folks (especially if your child is more like age 2-4 than a tiny newborn. Also, there is plenty of info to collect on literacy, child development, etc.

But if you are mainly looking to learn about preschools or playgroups or educational programs in particular the ones here are pretty Somerville-centered (and some have residency requirements, I think.)

I did check 'disable auto-formatting', because I was cutting and pasting from someone else's weirdly formatted email and wanted to clear all that out when I cut and pasted. I mistakenly thought it acted like "paste as plain text". I think it's all fixed now, though.

As long as you paste into the 'HTML' tab, and not the 'Rich Text' tab, it's fine to paste "weirdly formatted" stuff into an LJ post. The 'HTML' tab should strip out all the fancy formatting and leave you with just the (desired) white space.

The 'Disable auto-formatting' checkbox tells LJ to expect real HTML. This means that unless you have <br> and <p> tags in the right places, all your line breaks and blank lines will be stripped out. Usually this is not what you want.
