what's it like out there?

so, how are the roads? i'm supposed to drive my mother to a doctor's appointment in cambridge at 3... anyone wanna give me their best guess if driving will be relatively painless by then?

It might depend on what kind of car you have and whether the roads are plowed by then and how comfortable you are driving on snowy roads. I don't really know how to drive in the snow and my car is not all-wheel-drive, so after trying to get out of my street (right in Davis) this morning I turned around and went home (the car was just fishtailing too much for my comfort). Granted, I don't really know how to drive in the snow and our street (or Holland) were not plowed at 9 am (our street is still not plowed, not sure about Holland).

It'll be fine if they get the plows out, which, inexplicably, they had not done by the morning commute today. If you've heard plows go by between now and then, you're good. If not, prepare for it to be a bit hairy.

I work in Cambridge, and it looks pretty reasonable out my office window right now.

Plows seem to be out, although I wouldn't count on there being more than one lane in each direction (if that) plowed in some places.

The plow berm is seriously wet heavy snow though, so allow a lot of time for digging out. (I gave up on getting my car out entirely for now.)

I drove to work in my regular Civic today, and it was doable on the major roads (Broadway in Somerville) but a bit slippery and unplowed on the minor streets. The current weather radar forecast seems to think the snow won't stop until well after 3pm so I would be careful.

Roads are iffy... sidewalks are a MESS, so make sure both of you wear proper footwear.

If this goes on I wonder if they will try to reschedule the appointment.
