Restaurant REview: The Broken Yolk

... rdcf and I, always on the lookout for good breakfast-type food, went to The Broken Yolk just now.

the Broken Yolk is located where "What's Cooking on College Ave" used to be, at 136 College (wow, I'm redundant) right before Powderhouse Square... it appears to have opened sometime this week.

anyhoo, I give it two thumbs up: quick service, very reasonable prices, and the food (bacon/eggs/home fries) was quite good. my only quibble is that it's not a huge location, so seating might be a problem if they get popular (and that's all this part of town needs is another crowded breakfast joint!)

I don't miss What's Cooking in the least, I was very put off the first and only time that I went there. *shrug*

Why in heck? Maybe she was too hopping on her catering side of the business, anxious about it. I always really liked it.

We only went there once and vowed to never go back. There were two people working in the front and just hanging out rather than helping serve us. Then we went to pay with our credit card. The person ringing us up yelled to the back that she needed the credit card line to which someone yelled back, "Goddamn it, I just got online!" I didn't particularly care for the food anyway, but the bad service we got in spades at What's Cooking insured I'd never give it a second chance.

Oh we love them too, we just always make the mistake of going when we're insanely hungry and can't take the wait :-).

Ah... that would be a reason then, sure. A real shame. (adored the food, and mine was always to go anyway)
It was those llamas on the back door!! (ok, Alpacas!) How could I not love...

the broken yolk was originally from malden then they left :( but im happy to hear they relocated in somerville i loved it now ill love it more when i get to go there more yay

I was offput by their prices. I thought it was way too much for food that was pre-prepared and refrigerated, not cooked to order. Good to hear there's a new breakfast place, though.

fyi, i just called them and apparently they're NOT related to the broken yolk in malden -- and i assume it's the same people who do what's cooking because i just called the old what's cooking # and it was them.
