renting out my parking space?

Hi there folks! My apartment comes with an off-street parking place. Does anybody know about the legality, advisability, reasonable prices, etc. for renting it out? I don't use it and it would be handy to have the extra income. I would check with my landlord, first, but does anybody know anything about this? Have any experience with it? Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated.

Check with your landlord. Some will allow it and some won't. Some are probably OK with renting it to an individual who wants to park their car there but not OK with renting it to Zipcar, let's say. I speak from experience.

Generally, leases forbid subletting without permission of the landlord, and I assume that applies to the parking place as well. If you need permission of the landlord, make sure you get it in writing so no dispute arises later.

My landlord rents out an extra space in our driveway to a non-tenant. Last year a tree fell on it (from neighbor's property) during one of the wild storms we had. Not sure how it was resolved, but liability is something to be aware of before drafting the agreement.
