If you have a digital-to-analog TV converter box that you are no longer using, can I either borrow it temporarily or take it off your hands permanently? The one I have now is not working properly for me, and I'm not sure if the problem is the box, the antenna, or the little connector that takes the two antenna wires as input and produces a coax (single-pin) output.

I know that I should just buy a proper new widescreen digital TV, but I don't think I'm going to get around to that before the baseball playoffs end...

I have a converter box set but need to find it. We would loan it to you temporarily, if we can find it, as it's not that we've upgraded but downgraded and put the TV and its accessories away but are hanging onto them in case we need them in the future. :)

If switching out the converter doesn't do it, I have a digital antenna I'm not using. (Actually, I also have the TV I used it with, but I guess I'd have to figure out how much that's worth.)

Oh, thank god--I thought I was the last one using these.

And I do have a spare I could loan if none of the others pan out for you. But it doesn't work with the antique Tivo (which is why it is my spare). I don't know if that makes a difference to you. Mine is Artec T3A if it matters.

I am planning to go to the candidate forum tonight. I could bring it if you are going too.

Here's my quick take on the candidates forum: all of them seem to be genuinely interested in serving the residents and the city, and we're lucky to have good choices. I appreciate all of them taking the time to care about government, and to run for office.

It seemed to me the incumbents were the strongest on wonky reality-based strategies and methods to actually accomplish things, and also versed in the rules of what the board does and does not control. This is to be expected and is always going to be an advantage. The challengers had some more amorphous ideas that seemed a bit more wishful than concrete sometimes.

But there was not much disagreement on overall directions, I'd say. It's hard to suss out any really strong divergence on the policies and strategies from the short time they had to describe their views. They pointed to their long form answers on the PDS web site for more details: http://www.pdsomerville.org/

Issues that were raised included: green space; linked jobs and development issues; condo-ing and affordable housing; independence of the Board vs. Administration; disability access issues; walkable city issues (and bad cyclist behavior according to an attendee); Tufts and the Powder House school property; multi-lingual city services for more inclusiveness; environmental sustainability and divestment from fossil fuels in public pensions.

Original topic: do you still need a converter? I can get to Davis on Saturday with it you want the one I have.

Nah, I don't have that connector. The goofy antenna I have with the Artec was coax. But I'll bring that along too and you can borrow that until you replace your setup too. No hurry, other two boxes are currently working ok.

Can you be in the plaza near the Citizens around 1pm? I look like my avi, but somewhat less yellow. I know what you look like though, so I'll flag you over.
