Does anyone here have an opinion about Boston Tattoo Company, in the little plaza behind Chipotle/Starbucks? Alternatively, another nearby tattoo parlor you'd recommend? I'm particularly looking for someone who is good at fixing/covering up/refreshing an old tattoo that was never "right" to begin with and now is faded/blurry in addition. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

I recently got color and shading added to a tattoo, done by Angelo, who works in their sister location near Wellington (The Painted Bird). I can say that he did a great job, but it may not be what you're looking for exactly. His shading was excellent, which is what I was looking for.

As I understand it these two places share owners and the artists sometimes work out of one or the other, and the whole operation was well-run, clean, up-front, and reasonable.

Of course, each individual artist has their strengths and weaknesses, and I can't speak specifically comment on the DS location. But the overall management seems great.

I know Holly at Always & Forever tattoo in Watertown. They have images up to show lots of tattoos, including cover-ups, on their website and facebook page:

I got some spectacular cover-up work done by a woman named Elize Nazelie. She used to work at Boston Tattoo Company, but now runs Brilliance Tattoo (http://www.brilliancetattoo.com/elize-gallery/elize-nazelie-boston-tattoo-portfolio.html) in Boston on Commonwealth Ave. She did my two half sleeves (covering up three old tattoos in the process).

I do still go to BTC for small work (and I've had several friends get big pieces from different artists) but for cover-up work I'd absolutely try Elize, first.

You may also want to check out Redemption on Mass Avenue. Although I did not receive a cover-up, I did get some work done there and was very impressed.

I've had stuff done at:
Stingray: palm-sized color tattoo on upper arm
Boston Tattoo Co: text on upper arm
Hourglass: two-hand-ish-sized color tattoo on ribs
Regeneration: full color sleeve (3/4 done)

Had good experiences with all of them--extra love goes to Hourglass and Regeneration, as the artists there had to do substantial design work in addition to inking and I absolutely love the result, but I don't know if that really applies here. I can't say too much about Boston Tattoo Co, since all I had done was text, but I liked the shop, the artist, and didn't get hep C, so wins all around!

I'll second Always and Forever, but specifically Jaesun, based on his customer service!

I haven't had any work done by Holly, but Jaesun was highly recommended to me, and I'm glad he was.
