I've been noticing from recent apartment postings here that it seems to be a custom in our little 'hood to give apartments and houses names. I think it's cute. So far I've seen mentioned (or been to) houses called Mean People, Blue House, Dangerhaus, The New Neighborhood, and a whole bunch of others. Where I live is The Treehouse.

What's yours?

:-)

I have lived at the Rachelverse and Somewhere-Over-the-Bike-Path. I have had SOs at Continuum, Mystery House, and Apartment Not Found.

I'm now 500 miles away, and living at Raycho's-on-the-Pike. :)

Let's see -

I lived at Twinkie Towers for a while! Now I live in a big building, which doesn't lend itself to names very well.

We're the Peacock's Lair because [livejournal.com profile] gothic_peacock is our landlord.

whereby "castle greyskull" she means "safety villa", archnemesis of Dangerhaus.

In the greater camberville area there's Malkovich, Boddy Mansion, Starbase Zero, Grey 17, Pleasant Forest of Pain. Dangerhaus was proceeded by Castlevania.

Geeky types do this everywhere, as witnessed by Rocket House in New Orleans and Disaster House in SF.

I was a co-founder of the long-defunct Mystic House in West Medord, near the river of the same name. We had a "name the house" contest at our housewarming party.

Our current place doesn't have a name, because we haven't come up with one we all like yet.

I have lived at Cabal, Cocytus, a Cave, Contingency, Th3^3, Malkovich.

The "C" theme is purely coincidence.

We've also both lived in The Solarium at various points, although not simultaneously. It was named for its large, bright sunroom.

I haven't had a named house in a while. I think we used to name them when multiple people in the same crowd lived together, so instead of saying "I'm going over to Gun & Tim & Bill & Jen & Laurel's house" you could say "Chia House". Because of the ivy growing all over it. Anyway. I think the last named house I was in was the Litterbox, so-named for the 5 cats and 2 dogs that lived there.

I've never lived in a named house, nor did I even know people my age who named their houses (like they do their cars and computers) until a couple of years ago. But my friends have lived in Dope, the Den of Naughty Intentions/Den of Wishful Thinking, and a couple of others that I'm blanking on right now.

I used to live in the Monterey area in California; lots of people named their houses there, particularly in Carmel/Pebble Beach/Pacific Grove. They'd have the little signs hanging out with "The Gables" or "Seacoast Ranch" or somesuch, and put it as part of their actual mailing address.

Every house I've lived in since 1991 or so has been the current headquarters of the Laboratory For Social Experimentation (LSE for short). It's always been an appropriate name.

Since we moved into the house formerly known as Generic House a few years ago, we're informally the Generic LSE at the moment.

Let's see, I've had friends in Slack Manor, and, uh...ok, there were several, and I'm forgetting. But you're right, it is a cute tradition, and sadly one I've never participated in for my own abode. I think my place needs a name. Besides "the pit," which it currently is. ;)
