Theatre@First is proud to announce auditions for Francis Beaumont's comedy The Knight of the Burning Pestle! This almost forgotten Elizabethan gem combines the best of Shakespearean-style farce with a modern, meta flavor. Recently performed at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, this play is true high camp with no small roles.

Auditions are on Thursday Feb. 5th and Friday Feb. 6th at Unity Church.  To sign up for an audition slot please visit: http://www.theatreatfirst.org/shows/knight_of_burning_pestle/auditions.shtml

Auditioners may prepare a Monologue and an a cappella song for the audition, but these are optional.

We are also looking for a small (1-4 people) house band. The play will be done in traditional Renaissance style, and many of the songs are referenced directly in the text. However, melodies and instrumentation can be flexible. Please see the website for more details.

There will be a special autism-friendly performance during the second week of the show. Actors will be briefed beforehand on how to respond to possible disruptions from the audience, and there will be extra trained volunteers for this performance.
We’ll see you in February!

Oh, *neat*! I've never seen a production aside from the one I produced about 20 years ago. (My college Shakespeare professor declared this the funniest play ever written, which eventually led to a friend of mine deciding to direct it just to check that statement. It was a delightful success, and disconcertingly modern.)

Do you have a performance date yet? I'd love to spread the word amongst, eg, the local SCA: I've been telling folks about the play for many years, and would love to encourage them to come see it...

The show will be April 23, 24, 25, and 30, and May 1 & 2 at Unity Church in Somerville. The April 30th show, a Thursday, will be autism-friendly. That means (in part) that the house lights will stay on, more detailed programs will be distributed, and there will be extra trained ushers to help. The last show might also be kid-friendly, but we haven't worked the details out yet.

I am super happy that at least two people have heard of this show! I am also still looking for a couple musicians, see the auditions page at http://www.theatreatfirst.org/shows/knight_of_burning_pestle/auditions.shtml for more info and my e-mail if you know anyone.

I'll see you there!
