nolarescue was formed yesterday for the purpose of helping in any way possible the victims of Katrina. If you have information, need information, want to post about someone you are searching for, or post about someone you know to be safe, you can post it there. If you are able to donate goods, services (medical, transportation, pet boarding, etc), or any kind of help whatsoever, you can contact those with internet access who are close to the area by posting there. Also, please share the link with your friend list.

Sending cash to an assistance organization, rather than donating goods, is the best way to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, a U.S. emergency preparedness official said Monday.

Cash donations "allow volunteer agencies to issue cash vouchers to victims so they can meet their needs," said Michael Brown, undersecretary of homeland security for emergency preparedness and response.

I gave through the UUA link you posted in the nolarescue community. I'm not even UU, but it seemed an excellent option since they're directly involved with running shelters there.
