The chances that they're the same are actually getting slimmer all the time :)

I got my quad in March of last year, and at the time, the pilots were mostly from the "good ole boys" club of long-time RC pilots. In the past year, that has changed drastically: at the Head of the Charles, I saw 4 different pilots beyond myself and my friend who were flying, and I didn't even see them all. The Boston Area Multirotor community has gone from 30 people to more than 100; and now when I get stopped on the street and asked about my quad, I don't get asked "what is that", but usually told "Oh yeah, I saw someone flying one of those at ". (Occasionally, the someone they saw flying is me; usually it's not.)

In short: there are a lot of drones in the area, and the number is going to keep going up. (I'm building my second one this weekend :))
