I believe that's the old Pepperidge Farm outlet store. In the same strip mall, the Cambridge Quilt Shop (http://www.cambridgequilts.com/) and yarn shop The Knittin' Kitten (https://www.facebook.com/The-Knittin-Kitten-144287242248631/timeline) could make for synergistic neighbors.
This is one of very few local Davis Square businesses that have been around since before I moved here in 1992.
Others are Somerville Theatre, Sacco's Bowl-Haven, Rosebud (all three greatly changed in recent years), Johnny D's (soon to close), Goodwill (moved across the street to much larger store), McKinnon's, Redbones, Sligo, and Mike's.
(Peppe Boco, Deli-icious, and JP Licks also go back well before 1992, but have had ownership and name changes, from Sessa's, Nick's Roast Beef and Denise's respectively)
Yeah, I just saw that yesterday when I walked by. *sigh* I admit I haven't been in there all that often, but they've been such a fixture that it makes me sad.
Different Denise's perhaps? The one I'm thinking of was an ice-cream shop. The owner moved to Columbus, Ohio, and sold the shop to JP Licks, then opened a new Denise's in Columbus.
Looks like food is taking over the space. Just received notice from the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals regarding 278-280 Elm St. "Applicant, NLP 280 Elm Street Davis Square, LLC and Owner, Urban Equity Development Company, seek a Special Permit with Design Review to establish a fast order food establishment ..." Anyone know who wants to move in?
Here are the submitted plan and the city planning staff report. The applicant proposes a 16-seat fast-order restaurant to be called "Oath Craft Pizza". (Though I see only 13 seats in the diagram.)
From the planning report: "This pizza establishment is providing a different kind of experience by using super-efficient ovens to cook craft pizza in 90 seconds. "
They currently have two locations, Nantucket and South Station, but want to grow into a real chain.
